ABOUT KIVUN

No two paths are alike. Each of us are here with a mission like no other.

Our souls hold our compass on this unique journey. Our minds, the guide. And our bodies- the vessel.

Education is a conscious endeavor. We design every aspect of our school with this purpose, mindful that every detail matters.

And in this intentional learning environment, children develop their inner compass – one that navigates their individual path forward, in service of our Creator.

Join us at Lamplighters’ Annual Fundraising Gala to celebrate our 9th year, setting the intention to strengthen and increase the impact of our work, illuminating the path of our Lamplighters for generations to come. Onward and upward!

About The Guests of Honor

Ambassador Gabriel Guerra-Mondragón

For 47 years, Ambassador Gabriel Guerra-Mondragón led a life of public service. He served in the U.S. State Department under six U.S. presidents, starting with President Nixon. President Clinton appointed him United States Ambassador to Chile and President Obama appointed him to the prestigious Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. In November 2018, Ambassador Guerra came to visit Lamplighters Yeshivah to learn more about our innovative academic model; he led a spirited conversation with our High School boys, inspiring them deeply. At the Kivun gala, we are honoring Ambassador Guerra-Mondragón for his life’s dedication to social justice and public service, and particularly for his commitment to equal opportunity.

Sruli Richler

Sruli Richler is the CEO and founder of The Surplus Company, a successful business that brings maximum value to retailers, distributors and manufacturers for their excess or end of life inventory. Under Sruli’s guidance and direction, The Surplus Company has grown to 100m in revenue while servicing brands such as Sony, Sandisk, Samsung and Microsoft. In addition to his considerable business accomplishments, Sruli has taken an active role as a community leader and activist, and has been outspoken about his own struggles and healing process in dealing with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. “I speak out so that no 8 year old boy has to suffer until the age of 20 with the confusion, uncertainty and shame that I lived with”, Sruli has said. At the Kivun gala, he will be sharing more about his Lamplighters journey and what brought him to his purpose today.

Featured Speaker

Simi Polonsky

Simi Polonsky is the co-founder and co-chief executive of The Frock NYC, an e-commerce, fashion startup offering modern and timeless wardrobe essentials to women who prefer to dress modestly. Together with her sister and co-founder Chaya Chanin, their work in entrepreneurship and social media has built an ever-growing, global, diverse community of women who share their passion for creativity, individuality and drive to support everyone's unique journey. Simi and her late husband, Shua z"l, joined the Lamplighters family two years ago, connecting deeply to our mission to nurture every child in realizing their Divine mission as Lamplighters in this world. Polonsky, recently widowed, and a proud mother of three uses her platform to share her personal story in the hope that it inspires others to find their voice, share their story, and lead them on a path to create happier healthier lives. At the Kivun gala, Simi will be introducing Shua’s FlameFund, the Lamplighters tuition aid fund named in Shua’s honor.

About Lamplighters Yeshivah
Lamplighters Yeshivah is reclaiming school as a learning community, focused around our children.Rooted in Torah and infused with a process of questioning and experimentation, we nurture every child in realizing their Divine mission–applying their will, mind, heart and talents in the service of the Creator.

In turn, they will do the same for others. This is Lamplighting.

We are a lab school that’s reclaiming the wholeness of Jewish learning. We recognize the importance of ‘hard data,’ and the role of the ‘white space:’ nuance, anecdote, fluidity. We fortify educators as scientists, using technology, research, and behavior science to customize the learning environment for every student, growing as innovators and leaders in the process.

The most important number at Lamplighters is One. Our core belief is that we do not fit a child into a school; rather, we customize the school to fit the needs of every child. Education, and especially Jewish education, requires supporting the whole child. Click here to read more.

About The Venue

Discreetly tucked between the intersection of East Williamsburg and Bushwick, 99 Scott, a former historic warehouse-turned-industrial chic event space named for its address, was the perfect fit for this year’s Lamplighters Gala, Kivun. Boasting 20-foot-high ceilings with windows to match, its bones speak of its intent– to be a blank slate– a place that fosters creativity and unity. 99 Scott is so ready to be transformed by our talented event planners from Mimulo, who will chart its path forward to take you through a Lamplighter’s journey.
